Support
  • Short-term one-to-one supportive counseling for survivors, family, and caregivers with option for referral
  • Support groups for survivors and caregivers.
  • Psychosocial education (life adjustment & self-advocacy strategies for coping and thriving).
  • Specialized programming for young adults, women, caregivers, and families.
Service Coordination
  • Case management, assessment, support, advocacy and referral to community based supports, resources, and services to meet the needs and goals of brain injury survivors.
  • Support to assess and build community capacity for service to brain injury survivors.
  • Lifetime service as needed and long-term follow along services.
  • Entry point and referral source for Supports for Community Living (SCLS) program.
Information and Referral

For information on brain injury and the programs offered by NABIS call (780) 479-1757 and ask to speak to the Information Coordinator.

  • Information, educational sessions, presentations, library resources, and referral for survivors, professionals, caregivers, family, and the public.
  • Community intake, outreach, and liaison including a display at the University of Alberta Hospital which staff attend twice a week.
Leisure/ Recreation
  • NABIS supports entry into recreation and leisure programs including the Networks Activity Centre for adults with brain injury.
  • NABIS supports recreational groups like the Getting Out Group’s (GoGo’s) monthly social outings. For more information about the GoGo’s group call NABIS at (780) 479-1757 or speak to the GoGo’s organizer on Friday afternoons at (780) 479-1757 (Susan).
Advocacy
  • Advocacy for clients where there are gaps in service or difficulty accessing supports and resources
  • Systemic advocacy to create awareness about the impact of brain injury
  • Needs for services and resources are identified in order to ensure quality of life and meaningful community participation
  • NABIS partners with Provincial and Federal Brain Injury Organizations to achieve community awareness
  • Partnership with other disability organizations to meet common goals
